Day Treatment Night Watch Program

Two friends walking through an outdoor festival Day Treatment Night Watch is a program of the St. Clair County Circuit Court, Family Division. It is operational 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Begun in June 1996, the program is predicated on the ideal of serving the children of our community within our community whenever possible. Children referred are on probation. They along with their parent(s) or guardians are Court ordered to participate in the program. Children benefiting from this unique program present with home, school and community behavioral issues. The program allows a child to remain within their own home, while providing a whole range of programming such as drug screening, individual counseling, education, family support groups, recreational services and daily surveillance monitoring.

Education within the Day Treatment Night Watch program is provided by the St. Clair County Learning Academy, a charter school under the auspices of RESA. A total of 30 children typically attend the program at any time, with the split being 20 high school aged and 10 middle school students. Classes taken / credits earned while in the program are all fully transferable to the child’s home school when they exit this program.

Through a contract with St. Clair County Community Mental Health, clinical services are provided on-site by three state licensed clinicians. The full range of mental health services including individual, family, group and psychiatric services are available to program participants based upon individual need. Parents participate to enhance their parenting skills and learn how to best manage their child’s behavior. Children are given the opportunity to make better choices and enhance interpersonal skills.

Regular program operations are generally 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, with surveillance monitoring occurring at all hours thereafter. Surveillance of the youth is done by home visits and by phone.
