MANDATED BY LAW:
The Medical Examiner's office investigate and determines the cause and manner of
death of persons who die:
- Unexpectedly, accidentally or violently
- As the result of any suspicious circumstances
- Without medical attendance during the 48 hours preceding death
- Abortion
- In the case of any prisoner in custody
- Less than 24 hours after admission to the hospital
