About Us

MISSION STATEMENT: The Commission’s purpose is to recommend prudent spending of public funds and to coordinate programs and services that meet the changing needs of St. Clair County seniors 60 years of age and older that promote their well-being and quality of life.

The St. Clair County Commission on Aging was officially established by the St. Clair County Board of Commissioners on December 12, 1979. The Commission consists of nine members that live throughout St. Clair County, Michigan, and provides oversight to the Senior Millage funds. Each member serves a 3-year staggered term.

History of the Senior Millage in St. Clair County

The Senior Millage was first passed in 1979 and set at one half mill in 1986. The millage amount has only been increased twice in the past 28 years, a 0.3 tenths of a mil increase approved in 2012, and a 0.3 mil increase in 2014. The Senior Millage has been approved by voters each time it has been up for renewal by a wide margin, typically between 70% and 80%. The millage renewal was approved by 75% of voters in 2010 and by 76% in 2014. Most recently, in August 2018, the St. Clair County citizens renewed the 4-year millage of .8 mills (2018-2021) by an astounding 78% of the voters.
