Confinement Expenses

In family support cases where parents were not married at the time a child was conceived and born, the payer is ordered to pay a portion of uninsured medical expenses for reasonable and necessary expenses for the delivery and confinement of the child. This obligation shall charge at the rate of $25.00 per month until the total amount due has been charged. If the cost of the birth was covered by Medicaid, this expense will be owed to the State of Michigan. If the parents marry each other at a later date, the balance owed at the time the Friend of Court is provided with verification of the marriage will be eliminated, however the portion of the debt that has already been collected will not be refunded. The portion of the debt eliminated will be added back if the parents ever divorce.
